"Current View > More columns" bug

In the View tab, when you click on the "More Columns" button, it displays a new (small) window that allows you to choose what columns to add. But this window can't be moved. :-(
And more annoying... Once you have added a new column, as soon as you change the active folder, the column disappears..

I realize this window is a bit odd. It can be moved around by dragging on the title bar of the window. However, it cannot be resized, but I can enable that.

Also, the thing about the column disappearing is based upon how Windows Explorer handles columns. Columns are saved on a folder-to-folder basis. That means that if you show a certain column in one folder, that column will always be displayed when you look at that folder.

For example, I added the "Date Created" column to my Music library, because it helps me and my poor memory when managing my music. :) If I were to go into a different library, the "Date Created" column would not be there, because I did not add the "Date Created" column in that library. However, whenever I look at the Music library, I always see the "Date Created" column.

That was a really long explanation. Lol.

Unfortunately, that means that if you want to add a column to a multiple folders, you'll have to go into every folder and show that column.

I can't believe there's no way to apply this setting to all folders at once.. It's sad.
Thank you Jayke for your answer.

Oh no no, don't make this window resizable. Its size is good.

I just can't drag it anywhere (even with the titlebar). I can't move it.

jacobrh94 wrote May 27, 2012 at 3:53 AM

Yeah, I can see why that can get annoying. But you know what? I might be able to look into making a setting that forces a column to always be shown, but that setting would not make it into the beta release.

And you can't move it? Weird... May I ask what build you are using, or are you using the release?

neugrek wrote May 27, 2012 at 6:38 AM

I couldn't move it with the build 90994 and I still can't with the build 91008 (I installed the beta in its default "C:\Program Files (x86)\Better Explorer\" folder a long time ago).

Note that I can't even click on the close button [ x ].

jacobrh94 wrote May 28, 2012 at 3:34 AM

That is really weird... It works perfectly for me in all cases...

And it only applies to that window? Are you able to provide a screenshot of the window, just out of curiosity's sake?

neugrek wrote May 28, 2012 at 3:08 PM

Yes, it only applies to that window.

The Conditionnal Select window, for instance, doesn't bug.

jacobrh94 wrote May 28, 2012 at 6:31 PM

Okay... Huh... Let me try something, and see if that works... Honestly, this is a pretty unique issue to me... Lol.

DimitarCC wrote May 31, 2012 at 12:49 PM

yes it works for me also in all cases.

jacobrh94 wrote May 31, 2012 at 2:54 PM

Well, unfortunately, with the schedule we have, we won't have time to resolve this issue before the beta release. We will work on this after the beta release, however.

The project has entirely moved to GitHub.

BettereExplorer on CodePlex will be abandonned soon or later...
No more updates will be added here.

For me, just clicking the "More Columns" button crashes the Better Explorer.
Version 64 bits
On Windows 7 (all paches and service packs applied).
I use Avast 7 Internet Security.
