Project Description
This is a replacement for the standard Windows Explorer with more features for more convenience. One of that is Tabs, Ribbon interface, additional conditional tabs and so on!
This Project is designed for use with Windows 7 (On older operating systems it
WILL NOT work).
It works on Windows 8 Release Preview also.
The main goals of this project are:
- Adding Ribbon Control UI like in Windows 8 (Implemented)
- Adding tab functionality together with use of standard explorer browser control (Implemented)
- Adding additional features like:
- Changing Library icons (conditional tab for Libraries) (Implemented)
- File operation with files and folders (Implemented)
- Synchronized command prompt
- Change of folder icons (conditional tab for folders)
- Extended Jump list support (Windows 7) (Implemented)
- Extended search conditional tab like extended search pane in Vista (Windows 7) (Implemented)
Beta 1 Changes
There were a lot of changes, including:
- Translations into 10 different languages (the translations are not complete and will be updated soon)
- Conditional Select
- new tools for managing archives
- Folder Tools tab
- new search bar and Search Tab
- new image editing tools
- update function
- many bug fixes, stability fixes, and memory leak fixes
- other new features as well!
Windows 8
I am happy to announce that Better Explorer works successfully on Windows 8 Release Preview. Tested with the public build available from Microsoft site. Only thing that have to be done is to install Visual C++ 2010 redistributable package. The only issue
i was found is that Panes section does not exactly work as expected. Everything else works just fine.
Help with Translating
We're looking for people who can help translate BetterExplorer into your language. However, we are currently re-doing our translation system, so please check back in a few days. :)
"Unofficial" Source Code Builds
JaykeBird (Jayke R. Huempfner) made a page in which you can find newer versions of BetterExplorer built from the source code. These builds contain the newest features and fixes, but are not releases, so it can be risky to try these builds.

For all that encounter problems (crashes, errors and so on) during usage of Better Explorer: please when you report problems on this website, attach the log file (located in [Better Explorer install dir]\Log.txt

The latest bit of news I have is to get ready for the beta release! :D
The beta has a lot more new features and a lot of fixes. The new features include a totally redone breadcrumb bar and search bar (with additional search options), support for Details and Preview panes, translations into up to 12 languages, a Conditional
Select tool, and a whole lot more! Stay tuned!
