Then take this complaint up with Microsoft. There is nothing we can do.

The Folder Size Chart is available on the Folder Tools and Drive Tools tabs, as well as in the status bar. Make sure that you are using one of the builds offered on GitHub, not here on CodeProject.

OK the folder size chart tool is really good and useful. If you guys can add sort by size or name i would not complain ever again to you guys. For now you fellas are the man :)

The folder size column allows one to sort folders by size. this should be a basic function of any and all file manager programs. Microsoft has made a grave error in removing this feature. and it is wrong for us all to perpetuate it.

This is the final word we will make about this request.

A "Folder Size" column is not possible for us to implement. BetterExplorer is not like any other file managers out there. We use Windows Explorer to power a large part of our interface, and thus we are bound by the limitations of Windows Explorer. Windows XP and earlier versions had an API for Explorer that allowed third-party developers to create custom columns, such as a Folder Size column, which is exactly what happened, but beginning with Windows Vista, this API was removed, and no one is able to add custom columns to Windows Explorer, and thusly, BetterExplorer, on Windows Vista or later. BetterExplorer is developed for Windows 7 and Windows 8.

I understand that this is a much-requested feature, which is why Dimitar and I created the Folder Size Chart feature. You can select any folder, and on the Folder Tools tab, click on the "Size Chart" button to display a chart which shows the size of items in that folder. You can do the same with any folder that you are currently in by clicking on the Size Chart button on the status bar at the bottom-right corner of the BetterExplorer window. The Folder Size Chart feature is that closest we will get to creating such a feature.

Hello Ravellar.

Adding an extra column to Explorer is not possible since VISTA. This possibility has been removed by Microsoft. http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/windowsgeneraldevelopmentissues/thread/0e5b9c69-64b8-4fc5-8a74-b033e9def0b9

Unlike Explorer++ (which, I guess, has been coded from scratch) BetterExplorer is based on (and bound to) Explorer.

I will let Dimitar or JaykeBird answer this question but if I understood well, BetterExplorer reuses parts of the original Explorer. That's also why I think BetterExplorer is slower than the original Explorer. There was already a debate about that : http://bexplorer.codeplex.com/discussions/349015

But about your suggestion, I am affraid, it's not possible (according to what I read from developpers).

I offer you guys a thousand dollars if you include a folder size column. I am not kidding. Maybe a few other folks can join me and offer even more. I think you guys have everything I need in a file manager. I have never offered this to any one before because all others are so far off the mark. You guys are the best in look and features. With a little nudge, this project will be the best of all time with no competitor coming close.

No, he did not answer the question.

The most recent version of BetterExplorer is Beta 1. If you have Beta 1, then you're good for now.

However, we are working on a new beta. When that new beta is posted on GitHub, I will also post it here, and you should get that. It will have a new update feature that works with our GitHub site, so you'll be updated from GitHub after that.
